What Type of Testosterone Do YOU Use?

In the U.S. and Canada, testosterone for trans men generally comes in just four flavors: Injectable T. cyp. and T. enanthate, T gel and less commonly, T. pellets. Globally however, there are countless formulations and brands of androgens available for trans guys. (Know anyone on Omnadren or Jenasteron? They’re out there!)

If you’re on T, what type of Testosterone do YOU use? Log your answers is the community survey below.

Andriol PillsNote on oral testosterone: Contrary to popular belief, there are oral formulations of testosterone that pose no serious threat to the liver. For example, oral T. undecanoate is almost exclusively (>97%) delivered via the intestinal lymphatic system, thereby bypassing the liver. Two studies (1986, 2011) reported it as an effective alternative to other T. formulations, but the general consensus is that oral T. undecanoate doesn’t have enough bioavailability for FTM transition and is less effective in stopping menstrual periods. It’s also expensive and requires daily doses. Nevertheless, some doctors prescribe oral T. undecanoate to trans men, usually as a pre-cursor to IM formulations. Brand names: Jatenzo (USA), Taro (Canada), Andriol (Europe, Mexico, Asia and elsewhere, but not USA or Canada.)

  • Ean, T. enanthate is good, no problems there. Assuming that your T levels are within range, the source of the problem could be either time or genetics. For some trans guys it can take a long time to grow a full beard, and that makes sense: teenage boys don’t wake up with a beard one day, it takes time. The other possibility is that growing a beard is not in your genetic makeup. If other men in your family also have light beard growth, that’s likely to be similar to what you will experience. If the men in your family are well-bearded, then it’s probably just a matter of patience. Hope this helps!

You guys should do a survey to find out how many trans men that come hear identify as a feminist, MRA, egalitarian, humanist, other, or none! I’d definitely participate in that.

I use oral T undecanoate (Andriol) exclusively in my transition FTM. Where I live there is no other option….no injections…no gels….no payches…nothing. I started with 4 capsules daily divided in two doses with oily food……but didnt see much visible result within the first month….. then increased to 6 capsules daily again taken in two doses and started seing results after just one week…… then I increased the dose to 8 capsules daily divided in 3 doses with oily food (3 in the morning, 3 or 4 in the late afternoon, and 1 or 2 late at night) ….. results got visible fast. All this that I explained above happened in a timeperiod of 3 months only….. and my voice is deeper now, my body has fat redistribution and more muscle mass and strength and oily skin and clitorial gtowth of 1cm and a bit of acne…. no obvious hair growth on bidy yet. Aldo no obvious or dangerous side effects observed…..overall feel good except for a bit of insomnia sometimes. I will continue with the treatment and see to where it will lead. I am not under medical supervision as the concept of FTM is illegal here…..so I did my own reasearch and literally experimenting on myself using this medicine as no detailed research exists regarding dosages needed for transitioning if using Andriol exclusively for this purpose. Also another drawback is the high cost considering the high dosage needed to be taken to see results (6-8 capsules daily in my case) but I have no other choice.

  • Thank you for sharing your experience, Dani. I’m sorry that you don’t have access to care where you live. While working with a doctor would be preferable, I commend you for doing the research and taking charge, and I hope you can get what you want from Andriol. It sounds like transitioning where you live can be dangerous so I also hope that you can stay safe.
